Coquitlam
Coquitlam is strategically located at the geographic centre of the Lower Mainland, making the City an attractive place for residents, industries and a thriving retail sector. Coquitlam is bordered by the municipalities of Port Moody, Port Coquitlam, Burnaby and New Westminster, as well as the Fraser River to the south, Pitt River to the east and the Coastal Mountains to the north.
Growth in Coquitlam through the early and middle parts of this century was steady. The opening of the Lougheed Highway in 1953 made the City more accessible and set the stage for residential growth in the early 1960s. Coquitlam experienced a period of boom in the mid-1970's which continues today.
Como Lake Park
Como Lake Park is a small park in Coquitlam, BC. It is popular with Joggers and Walkers. There is a 1.2 kilometer trail that loops around Como Lake. You can find plenty of park benches where you can rest and watch the birds. Fishing is allowed for seniors and children under 16 and there are two fishing docks on opposite sides of Como Lake. The lake is stocked annually with rainbow trout 20 to 30 centimeters long. (8" - 12"). There are over 70 species of wildlife to be seen at the park at various times of year, mostly birds. Environment Canada lists this lake as a migratory stop-over for birds.

Minnekhada Regional Park
Minnekhada Regional Park is located in the north-east part of Coquitlam. There are several Hiking Trails as well as a historic Hunting Lodge in this 175 hectare park. The Hunting Lodge was built in 1934 and was the home of former British Columbia Lieutenant Governors.
The trails vary in lengths and will take 30 minutes to 3 hours to complete, depending on trail. All trails are well marked. The names of the trails are: Minnekhada Perimeter Trail, Lodge Trail, Fern Trail, High and Low Knoll Trail.
The marsh area is full of wildlife. Frogs, ducks, geese and other birds can be observed. This area is frequented by bird watchers as we have seen several with large binoculars and/or cameras in the park.
